Multiple Theories on Play

Abstract

|
The Play is seen in the young of almost all species of mammals including men and birds. The author reviewed the literatures with reference to the multiple theories on play after brief reviews on the functions, the characteristics, and the classifications of play. The theories on play may be summarized as follows; 1) Surplus Energy Theory 2) Instinct-Practice Theory 3) Recreation Theory 4) Recapitulation Theory 5) Self-expression Theory 6) Assimilation Theory 7) Psychoanalytic Theory (which include Pleasure Principle, Repetr; tion Compulsion, and the Instinct of Mastery).
